My Short Story

Anna’s parents were surprised when they found out that their daughter was not doing well in school. They were not there to see that she spent most of her day on the new I-phone they had bought for her. And she did not realize that she would see the phone more than she would see her parents. It couldn't’t replace them, as hard as she tried to keep her mind off missing them. On the bus on the way home from school she scrolls through the pictures on her new handheld toy so often that there are times she feels that she will get into trouble if her parents have to buy her a replacement for it. Only if she got to see them more, she thought to herself, that maybe she would not want to look at the pictures so much. Anna barely got to see her parents while they were working. At seven years old, she felt lonely most of the time, even though she had a very sweet Nanny. Often Anna spoke to her parents over the phone and sometimes he even got to see them live through the webcam, which was a lot better than the usual phone calls. Her Nanny Louise was a quiet woman who tried to talk with Anna as best she could, but her meager English kept their conversations pretty quite. Anna was a very smart girl and was one of the smartest kids in her class. Yet, at school her mind would wander and she would daydream about just being with her parents. Anna was a lot smarter than most seven year olds at her age. At school she figured that if she just didn’t do as well as she normally did, her parents would rush to side to help her do better in school. It wasn’t long before she realized that the tutor that her parents got for her was just like the I-phone in her pocket.
